Schedule
Races take place each Thursday at 12:00 SL time. There are four races per day. The year is split into four series ("spring", "summer", "autumn" and "winter") each of which has eight race days.

There are currently no plans for Asian or American friendly race times. If you would like to administer them please let Hans know. If you would like to take part in Asian races please let Taku Raymaker know.

Courses
The venue is the scenic yet challenging open waters of Sailor's Cove. Maps to the courses can be found on the left hand menu. Every fortnight we will add a new course.

Weather
The wind for all Big Cat Cup races is strong:

  • Direction = 250° (i.e. NNW)
  • Speed = 18 m/s
  • Half Arc = 15
  • Range = 2
  • Rate = 1

The wind setters can be set by activating your Fishers Island Yacht Club group and typing /44 predef BigCatCup (note: this is case-sensitive).

Communications and Spectators
Racers should join the Zinnemann group to keep informed of race news. Live commentary of the races is provided on the Zinnemann group IM by Toxic Menges. Special viewing platforms are provided for spectators. Spectators are asked to remove unnecessary prims and not to click on any of the boats (this stops them which is not a good thing).

Race Officials
The following people help organise the races:

Scoring
Race winners are awarded 0 points, second place 2 points, third place 3 points, fourth place, 4 points, etc.

DNS, DNF and DSQ are all be given 10 points. DNF will be given last place in the race (e.g. if there are 5 racers racing they will be given 5 points).

Each skipper will have the points from their worst race of the day thrown away (i.e. only their 3 best scores will be counted).

The winner of the series is the racer with the least number of total points. In the case of racers having equal number of points then the racer with the most wins will be selected.

If a racer does fails to attend on either of the first two days of racing in a series then they will be removed from the competition.

Right of Way
The following protestable rules will be used in the races. Skippers who agree that they have violated one of these rules must hail "YES" and do a 360 turn in clear water as soon as possible if they are hailed "PROTEST" by a competitor or a race official. If they do not agree they should hail "NO":

  • Rule 10 - Starboard Rights
  • Rule 11 - Leeward Rights
  • Rule 13 - Keep Clear While Tacking
  • Rule 18 - Room at Marks
  • Rule 19 - Room to Tack at an Obstruction
  • Rule 31 - Touching a Mark
  • EOW - There are no rules at the End of World. Enter at own risk

Racers are also reminded to keep clear of the other boats whilst overtaking.

It should be noted that all yachts must be sailing in the pre-start after -01:45

Recalls
Recalls of the race will be made if a skipper crashes before the clock reaches 00:00 or if half the fleet crashes during the race.

The Big Cat CupBig Cat Class
Races are open to owners of any large multihulls. For the purpose of these races we define "big" as a LWL exceeding 9 meters but a beam of less than 10m. To qualify boats must be able to use SLSF Race Wind and be recognised by the start line. A handicap system will be developed to give time advantages to slower boats. At present only the Zinnemann 40 (v1.5) is eligible to be raced.

Prizes
The winner of each week will be allowed to moor their cat in Winner's Row. If you are the weekly winner please contact Bennythe Boozehound to have your boat moored there.

The winner of each series receives the Big Cat Cup (as seen on the right) which will be theirs to keep. They also recieve a Zinnemann Power 1500 speedboat.

The top three racers in each series also receive medals. All participants are given a free personalised Big Cat Cup jacket.
