Sailmaker Program

As you know the Zinnemann 40 cat has become one of the most popular boats in SL but I am sure you will also have noticed the default sails it is shipped with are boring! To remedy this we will give customers the sails they deserve by allowing them to choose from a suite of default sails on this site.

Our proposal is that each month Zinnemann commission one set of sails (mainsail, spinnaker and both sides of jib) from the best sailmakers in SL. We would purchase full copyright to that set of sails to enable us to make them freely available for customers to use on their Zinnemann 40. We intend to give the best sailmakers at least one commission each with further commissions for the makers of the most popular sails.

Zinnemann would be happy to pay L$1,750 per suite of sails. Even better, we will be able to give the sailmakers lots of publicity in Zinnemann island and on our website. Site visitors would be able to see how many sailors had chosen each set of sails.

Photoshop templates for the sails are available and there would be some guidelines to stick to (such as the words Zinnemann 40 on the mainsail and the batten positions) but there would also be a good degree of artistic freedom (such as batten curve/angle and foot, leach/roach shape).

We would very much like the views of sailmakers on such a partnership. For the moment we am consulting the following sailmakers:

If you have any views please do let Hans know. Most importantly we would like to know if you are interested in participating or not.

By popular request Zinnemann have made it possible to limit the use of sails on Zinnemann 40 to only the direct customers that sailmakers specify. Sailmakers who are logged in can use this simple form to do so.
